Students in the Spotlight at Fifth Annual EduCare Student Leadership Awards
If you noticed that the day seemed just a little brighter on June 17, 2021, it wasn’t your imagination. That was the day that 32 EduCare senior high school students who had demonstrated outstanding leadership during the school year were honored in a very special Zoom celebration that was moving and inspiring by turns.
Stu Semigran, EduCare’s President and Co-Founder, led off the Fifth Annual EduCare Student Leadership Awards by introducing the Janvie Cason Service Leadership Award, a new award named in honor of the much-loved ACE facilitator, and by sharing dreams we all hold for our students. EduCare staff members and moderators LaNell Williams and Yesenia Leon gave kudos to regional managers Ivan Haro, Gerardo Mungaray, Jeanaah Sampson, and Daniel Cortes, as well as Armando Diaz, Director of Programs & Partnerships, before plunging into the main event – the student awards.
A heartfelt rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah by Sylmar High School student (and award recipient) Kylie Guevara kicked things off.
EduCare afterschool staff introduced each student by enthusiastically noting the qualities that made each graduating senior so deserving of a Leadership Award. Honorees spoke, too, often with beaming family members looking proudly on.
Congratulations to each and every student who received an EduCare Student Leadership Award!
