In the News: EduCare Students Featured on Spectrum News 1

We were so proud to see EduCare students at Mission Continuation High School in San Fernando featured on Spectrum News 1. The students, their teacher, Angelo Spyropoulos, and their EduCare ACE Initiative Site Administrator, Vianca Carchi, shared how their new lesson plan about Día De Los Muertos supports students in learning about history, strengthening their writing skills, and coping with loss.

“The teacher and I came up with a lesson plan in regards to what’s the history behind Día De Los Muertos and what is the meaning of honoring someone.” - Vianca Carchi, EduCare Program Coordinator

During the weeklong project, students make ofrendas to celebrate and honor loved ones who have passed and share happy memories with their classmates.

“It makes me happy to think about [my grandmother], because of all those fond memories I had of her when I was little…. And it makes me happy that I can celebrate my culture in school. - Edwin Molina, student

This project is a wonderful example of how EduCare’s ACE Initiative supports students in the classroom and beyond. EduCare’s ACE Initiative program has been bringing comprehensive year-round academic and social-emotional learning supports to students since first launching in 2017. Over 11,000 students across 14 Los Angeles schools now access ACE Initiative supports.

Congratulations to the students and staff of Mission Continuation High School!
